FAQ

What type of cloth nappies do you use?

We provide 100% unbleached cotton pre-fold inserts which are designed to be used with waterproof adjustable dome outers.

How will I know how to use the nappies correctly?

A Toosh & Co. representative will arrange a time to meet face-to-face during your first nappy delivery to show you how to fit and use the cloth nappies. There are multiple ways the pre-fold inserts can be folded so we can show you the best ways to contain any mess.

Where in Dunedin is this service available?

We currently provide this service to families in the Dunedin City area. This extends to, and is inclusive of, Mosgiel, Brighton, Port Chalmers and Portobello. If you are unsure if your location is included please contact us for further information.

What products do you use to clean the cloth nappies?

Toosh & Co. aims to reduce the amount of chemicals we expose your baby and the environment to. We use Rockin' Green's Platinum Series Dirty Diaper Detergent along with Seitz's Mega Pur which get the cloth inserts clean and sanitised without lots of nasties.

Is your cleaning process sanitary?

Yes - absolutely! The Seitz Mega Pur product ensures sanitation at 60 degrees celsius for a minimum of 20 minutes. Toosh & Co. follows the AS/NZS 4146:2000 Standards for Laundry Practice. Along with the combined disinfection of the temperatures and Mega Pur in the wash cycle further sanitisation occurs during the hot dry cycles we use for all our cloth inserts.

Do I need to rinse or soak the nappies before they are collected?

No. Solids are to be tipped into the toilet and then the cloth inserts can be put straight into the waterproof bag and bin provided. Cloth inserts with newborn liquid stools can go directly into the bag and bin.

Do I need to use disposable nappy liners in your nappies?

No. You can choose to use them for personal preferences but this is not a requirement. If you do decide to use disposable nappy liners please ensure you dispose of them before placing the cloth inserts into the bag. We recommend you check the details of your liners to ensure you dispose of them correctly.

What do I do with dirty nappies when I am out of the house?

We recommend purchasing a large wet bag to store your soiled nappies while you're out. They are water-proof carry bags which are great for dirty cloth nappies as well as for wet/dirty clothes when you are out and about. You can purchase these through our Toosh & Co. online shop.

Can I use barrier creams on baby's skin with cloth nappies?

Absolutely. Less is best, but these creams will be removed from the cotton nappies when they are washed.

How do I manage potential odours from the soiled nappies while they are being stored?

When placed in the bag and bin provided, smells should be kept to a minimum. It is best to keep the bin in a cool room out of direct sunlight. If you need to minimise any odours that escape you can sprinkle a small amount of baking soda over the cloth as needed.

How many cloth pre-fold inserts do you supply?

For newborns we supply enough to change your baby approximately every 2 hours. Once your baby is around 6 months old and transitions to the larger insert size, we supply enough to change your baby approximately every 4 hours.

Do you supply different sized nappies?

Our cloth pre-fold inserts come in two sizes - newborn and infant-sized. Newborn sizes are supplied until your baby is between 6-12 months old, and then the infant-sized cloth will be supplied until nappies are no longer needed. The outer nappies come in a one size fits most, where the size can be altered using the domes attached.

Can we pause our subscription if we go on holiday?

Yes. If you contact us in advance we can pause the subscription for a maximum of 6 weeks each year.
